Sophisticated heavy-duty transportation for the St-Avold large thermal power plant
Steil Kranarbeiten set new standards for block 2 of the France's largest gas and steam turbine thermal power plant in St-Avold. A turbine (220t) and a generator (350t) had to be loaded at the port of the Ensdorf thermal power plant. A new crane vehicle, the Terex DEMAG CC 2400-1 (400 t lift) was used for this. The two components to be transported were hoisted from a barge onto special transport rollers, and then further transported.
The crane was set up with the help of a 100-tonne auxiliary crane and 3 additional assemblers. A full 26 trucks were needed to transport the special equipment. The crane data: 36m pole, 30m super lift, 160t counterweight, 40t central ballast, 240t super lift ballast.
The 350-tonne generator was then transported in a gentle millimetre-by-millimetre operation with a radius of 13.5 metres. Despite the difficult weather conditions, there were no major complications, meaning the loads could be safely transported to St-Avold using 4 tractor trucks. The operation was one of the heaviest transportations ever made on Saarland roads.
Thanks to perfect planning, the highly-specialised fleet, and the competent expert team from Steil Kranarbeiten, block 2 of the St-Avold large thermal power plant was able to be successfully completed.
